The Chair of Hockey Tasmania Audrey Mills announced today that major repair works would be undertaken on one of the recently constructed playing surfaces at the Cornelian Bay Hockey Centre.
Ms Mills said that a section of the surface on ground one had developed undulations that were unacceptable for a first class playing surface.
“We have been in discussions with the contracting parties and they are working closely with us to resolve the problem.”
Work will commence shortly and is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2009 hockey season.
Ms Mills said the Tasmanian Hockey Centre with three playing surfaces and the new clubrooms was the envy of hockey players and administrators across Australia and it is vitally important that the playing surface is of international standard.
“The overall cost of the recently completed redevelopment of the Tasmanian Hockey Centre was $7.8 million and the project was completed within budget.”
