The FIH has introduced significant rule changes for the 2007-2008 hockey season. Many important changes relate to goalkeepers. This has implications for how penalty corners & penalty strokes are conducted.
Summary of changes
* Teams can now choose to play with or without a goalkeeper.
* Teams can interchange a goalkeeper with a field player during a match.
* Goalkeepers can wear full protective gear including a protective helmet OR they can wear just protective head gear & a differnt colour shirt to their team.
* More flexibility for goalkeepers defending their goal. They can now sweep the ball away with their hand.
* More freedom for defender stopping high shots at goal with their sticks. It isn’t an offence when stopping a shot above
shoulder height if the defender’s stick is not motionless or is travelling towards the ball.
